2024 Buyer’s Guide to Ehrlich's Reagent Test Kits

A guide to Ehrlich's reagent test kits: why they are so important, how do they work, how to use them properly, and which one is the best and most reliable?

Is someone trying to sell you an adulterated or counterfeit dose of a recreational drug such as lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD)? Fake LSD tabs are common and dangerous. The Ehrlich’s Reagent test kit can provide exact answer and reveal the truth in less than five minutes.

Paul Ehrlich, physician & scientist, created Ehrlich’s Reagent as a diagnostic tool, which is used nowadays to ascertain if purchased drugs like LSD, DMT, and Psilocybin (Magic Mushrooms), are what they claim to be, and not some less-expensive and toxic product.

Reagents, by their very nature, are substances which react in the presence of other specific substances in a well-understood way.

On the other hand, LSD is an indole alkaloid, a member of a group of substances that have very important functions within the human body. Indoles aid in the production of tryptophan, an essential amino acid. That is then used to make that most important chemical, serotonin which affects our mood, our ability to sleep or stay awake, and much more.

In concentration, indoles are the main contributors to the smell of feces, but in small quantities produce the smell of jasmine and orange blossom. LSD can interfere with part of the serotonin metabolism chain, and this partially explains its ability to cause “trips”, but the whole process is still not well-understood by science.

So how did these two things come to be related?

Why Ehrlich Test Kits Are So Important?

LSD Stamp

Nowadays the chemicals required for making LSD are tightly controlled and difficult to obtain. That’s why there are so many “fake” tabs out there – made with easier-to-obtain supplies – and potentially deadly chemicals substituting for what you intended to purchase.

Sadly, this has resulted in dangerous, and in many cases, fatal incidents for several years now, with criminally negligent profiteers claiming to sell one thing that is actually something else entirely. In fact, generally speaking, what has come to be called the “Opioid Crisis” probably wouldn’t exist without these crooks.

For example, effective (or deadly) doses of Fentanyl are measured in micrograms; a microgram is equal to one millionth of a gram, or 1 × 10-6 grams. It is literally impossible to distinguish a lethal dose from a therapeutic dose by eye.

Another example is the NBOMe-family. Many users are aware that the NBOMe-family of substances only work if you hold the tab under your tongue, and that “N-bombs” are destroyed by the stomach’s acid, making them harmless. Their solution is to just swallow their tabs and if there is no effect, it was NBOMe (LSD is tasteless, but forms of NBOMe are quite bitter, hence the expression “If it’s bitter, it’s a spitter!”).

Unfortunately, there are a number of other substances used as a substitute for LSD that are very toxic which will work even if your swallow them. Those include 25B-NBOH, 25C-NBOH, 25CN-NBOH, 25I-NBMD, 25I-NBOH, Bromo-DragonFLY, DOB, DOC, DOI, or DOM.

All it takes is one mistake by an unqualified or sloppy backroom chemist to sicken or kill thousands of people. Is that a risk you’re willing to take? It shouldn’t be. For this reason, Ehrlich test kits have been devised to protect users from villains; to provide fast reliable results about that chemical you are about to ingest.

The sociopaths that sell those fake drugs are far more interested in making a profit than in you being healthy, or even staying alive. The simple rule “Before you ingest, make sure that you TEST” should guide all of your recreational drug activities.

Buying an Ehrlich’s Reagent Test Kit

You can buy reagent alone, as well as the micro-centrifuge vials that have been repurposed for these testing kits and just make your own kit. The 1.5 ml vials are quite inexpensive, but are just about perfectly suited for this particular type of testing, with their attached snap-tight lids so they can be safely shaken without spilling the chemical.

A more convenient option is to purchase a ready-to-go kit – including instructions with color chart, and handy reusable tubes so you can repeat tests as frequently as needed.

TestKitPlus™ Ehrlich Test Kit

This kit is known to be reliable. It comes with the reagent, a 30ml reusable testing vial, and a color chart to show you the expected colors for a positive result. The instructions accompanying it are simple, straightforward, and easy to follow. TestKitPlus™ Ehrlich Test Kit is delivered from Canada, but can be shipped (discreetly) worldwide. It is priced appropriately at 19 USD for a small bottle (50-100 tests), and around 25 USD for the bigger bottle (100-200 tests) – That is a remarkably cheap price to pay for guarding your life from people who care more about your Jacksons, Hamiltons, or Lincolns than they do about you.

One thing to note is that the kit doesn’t come with protective gloves. If you are neat and tidy in your testing they should be unnecessary, but it is important to know that the reagent is corrosive, flammable, and toxic if on the skin, in the eyes, inhaled, or swallowed.

Ehrlich’s reagent can contain hydrochloric acid, ethanol, as well as para-Dimethylaminobenzaldehyde, or variations such as Isopropanol and Phosphoric acid, since the most vital component is the p-Dimethylaminobenzaldehyde. Nevertheless, it is not something to be treated casually.

You’re conducting a real laboratory grade test, so be attentive. Don’t touch the tab with your fingers before testing because your skin oils or other contaminants may skew the result. Treat it seriously.

How to Use Ehrlich Test Kits

The Ehrlich Reagent test is wonderfully fast and efficient. A typical LSD tab on blotter paper measures about ¼” (6.35 mm) on a side, and contains 25-50 micrograms of the drug. Using a sharp pocketknife or a pair of tweezers, you can cut or tear off a tiny corner and place it on a white, non-absorbent surface (like a ceramic plate for example), and add 1-2 drops of Ehrlich’s Reagent from the Ehrlich Test Kit. If you are not at home, just use the reusable testing vial – this is exactly why it’s there, but you may need two drops with any sample so that you can see the color change more clearly.

Within one minute you should be able to see a purple color evolving; after three minutes, it should become obvious; and after five minutes it should be quite pronounced and fairly dark purple. Purple indicates that the tab contains LSD, or one of its analogs, such as AL-LAD, ALD-52, ETH-LAD, 1P-LSD, or 1P-ETH-LAD. These are all considered harmless in the amounts that will fit on a blotter-paper tab, so purple means “safe”, however that does not mean that there are no other contaminants. Multi-drug testing kits (also made by TestKitPlus™) can be very useful for eliminating other possibilities, even if you do get a purple result from the Ehrlich’s Test kit.

TestKitPlus Reagent Test Kits:

If there is no color change, then it is very likely that it actually contains one of the variations of “NBOMe” (pronounced N-bomb) such as 25B-NBOMe, 25C-NBOMe, 25I-NBOMe, 2CBCB-NBOMe, 2CBFLY-NBOMe, or 256TFM-NBOMe, all of which have proven fatal to many, many people in very tiny doses.

You should test whenever you get a new batch – without having to worry about “running out” or reasoning “Well, they were good from this guy last time”. You never know how the supply or supplier may have changed and each test cost less than 50 cents, closer to 12 cents if you purchase the bigger Testkitplus bottle and use only 1 drop per test.

If you are testing Magic Mushrooms (Psilocybin & Psilocin) it is necessary to cut off a small sample from the cap AND a small sample from the stem. Different mushrooms concentrate their chemical load in different parts. Chop these bits up very finely to reveal as much surface area as possible to hasten the reaction. It could take several minutes to reveal the purple color.

Similarly, if you are testing DMT (N,N-Dimethyltryptamine), a South American ritual hallucinogenic with an instant effect, peaking in 3-5 minutes and fading within 45 minutes, it comes in a white powder form with doses between 30 and 150 mg. You only need the tiniest speck in a single drop of Ehrlich’s Reagent for the reaction to take place.

AMT (Alpha-methyltryptamine) is new on the scene, and is used as an antidepressant in Russia. Doses are 20-40 mg with effects lasting 12-24 hours. The faintly orange powder can be tested just like DMT.

Ehrlich’s Reagent

Named after Paul Ehrlich (1854-1915), the physician and scientist responsible for finding a cure for syphilis in 1909, Ehrlich’s Reagent was originally created to differentiate between common diarrhea and the much more dangerous typhoid disease caused by salmonella bacterial infections. His accomplishments are many, including essentially creating the entire field of chemotherapy.

Millions are alive because of his brilliance, his inventions, and his discoveries. Without his efforts we might still think that all blood was the same, and suffer an unexplained 50% mortality rate from getting blood transfusions. Without Ehrlich’s cellular dyes, we would still know next to nothing about the inner structure of cells and how they function.

In his day, typhoid disease was a serious illness where one patient in five would die from acquiring it. Since the 1940s, the invention of antibiotics and modern sanitation has reduced that risk in most First and Second World nations. In India the problem is a major threat, and in similar countries with less developed sanitation practices, they still suffer from it to the tune of 12.6 million cases annually around the world. In North America there are about 500 cases annually, and they are almost entirely confined to travelers that visit other countries with dubious sanitation practices.

How Does Ehrlich Test Work?

Some reactions, such as mixing baking soda and vinegar, will produce a lot of carbon dioxide bubbles and foaming. This is familiar to science fair visitors watching youngsters’ chemical volcanos. However, baking soda reacts with any form of acid, from phosphoric to hydrochloric, and so vinegar is a very general reagent.

Ehrlich’s Reagent, on the other hand, is very specific. It reacts with indoles and produces a purple color. With it you can test for 5-Me0-DMT, 5-Me0-DIPT, AMT, DMT, Psilocin, Psilocybin, and of course – LSD.

Ehrlich Test Kits – The Takeaway

Naturally we don’t advocate using substances that are still deemed to be illegal by the powers that be. The simple fact of the matter is that despite what anybody says, people are still going to use these substances.

Since that is the case, the least we can do is offer our best advice for using recreational pharmaceuticals with a reasonable margin of safety. In the case of LSD, DMT, and Psilocybin (Magic Mushrooms), it calls for the Ehrlich Reagent Testing Kit, to make sure that you have received the product that you paid for – and you’re not ingesting a potentially deadly poison.

Irrespective of what you choose to do, minimize the risk by testing every purchase – it only takes one deliberate deception to ruin your life. Stay safe out there and test, test, test!
